With his record-setting start to the 2022-23 season, Buffalo Sabres defenseman Rasmus Dahlin has been named the NHL's First Star of the Week for the week ending October 23, the NHL announced Monday.
Dahlin is currently on a five-game goal streak, which is the longest goal streak to start a season by a defenseman in NHL history.

"He's real young and he's one of the more mature hockey players I've ever played with on and off the ice," forward Alex Tuch, who is on a four-game goal streak of his own, said following Thursday's game. "Takes care of his body, he's doing the right things, he takes it really seriously. He's always watching video, he's always doing extra, he's always out there early.
"It's unbelievable to see. He leads by example and all the other guys follow. All the other guys want to be out there doing the right stuff with him and it's unbelievable what he brings to this team. He doesn't get enough credit honestly in this league."

BUF@VAN: Dahlin records his 5th goal in 5 games

Dahlin, 22, is first in the league among defensemen with his five goals (fifth overall) and eight points (10th overall). He's ranked 12th in the NHL with 24:26 of ice time per game.
He had five points (3+2) in three games last week.
The Sabres alternate captain is the third player in franchise history to open a season on a five-game goal streak, joining Gilbert Perreault (1979-80) and Thomas Vanek (2008-09). He's also just the third Sabre in the past 23 years to record a five-game goal streak. Vanek (2008-09) and Jason Pominville (2006-07) are the others.
"When Erik Karlsson was at the top of his game, he was doing things with the puck that you just wouldn't expect him to do because he had that confidence," goaltender Craig Anderson, who leads the NHL with a 1.00 goals-against average and a .970 save percentage, said Saturday. "And Dahls is there in his own game, right?
"I'm not comparing him to Erik, but I'm comparing him to that confidence, that swagger with the puck that he has to be able to make those plays. He's just playing loose and letting his skill and ability take over right now."
The Sabres are 4-1-0 to start the season and will look to sweep their four-game road trip Tuesday night when they face the Kraken in Seattle. Faceoff is at 10 p.m. on MSG and WGR 550 with pregame coverage starting at 9:30 on MSG.
The team will return home to open up a four-game homestand on Thursday against Montreal. Tickets for that game are on sale now.
